Christmas Release - Version 1.0

So, here's version 1.0 of the game, at long last:

Dungeon of Lost Maidens 1.0

I wasn't able to find time to play through the game with debug mode turned off, but at least the early part of the game seems to be fine.  Theoretically, the whole game should be playable from beginning to end, although that was tested piecemeal.

There are a few known issues:

Resting can take a fair amount of time, making it look like the game is frozen.  Just wait.
Some monster AI is still kind of wonky.
Some mechanics and quests are introduced kind of awkwardly.

There's some convenience issues that need to be addressed in later versions:

You probably need to be able to town portal back down, instead of just to town.
I promised customizable character graphics for people who didn't like the art, I'll try to add that in later versions.

The default settings:

The game begins on Easy mode, which gives  you virtually unlimited characters, maps that remain between deaths, and no XP loss on death.  QuickStart is also set to "On", this gives you all the basic quests in town, and puts you right by the dungeon entrance.

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys it and helps with bug reports / balance issues.  I won't be able to address any of them for a bit due to the holidays, but either comment on this post, or send me a link to a forum where you discuss it and I'll take a look.

  1. Heyo. I was wondering if you could provide a mirror since the TinyUpload link conveniently "fails" when the download completes with a Network Error every time on Chrome.

  2. Hi,I've been playing around for a bit, and I'm afraid I have a problem with the siren quest. Once I find and help the alchemist girl on the first floor, it marks the siren quest as completed, and I can even claim the reward.

Also, if I change the difficulty, next time I open the menu, I'm back at the easy difficulty again. It also seems to apply the easy settings anyways, (exp and room save, at least) so that might be a bug as well

    1. Also, I've found that sometimes, after being hit by a sleep trap, it will bug it out. Instead of losing control, entering sleep state and waking up after a bit, I retain control and the sleep icon does not appear, but I will be constantly skipping turns, meaning that enemies move in real time, and will keep attacking me until I'm downed.

    2. When on the 1st mid level, I found a named goblin character with a bow that gave no introduction (Keyreshka). Upon defeat, again no scene, and it said that there was an error (ERROR: Missing script #2007)

Also, once I found the kobold elder and talked to him, it said he attacked, but he did not turn hostile, and the dialogue can be triggered again

    3. I'm having the same bug with the siran quest completing and dumping 10000 gold on my character before I even reach level 2... Also 90% of the time I try to sell mana potions to the shop it says I don't have any potions.

  3. Congrats on the release.

A lot of people over at ULMF seem to be having issues with virus scans tagging this as a trojan. It looks like the cause is your choice of host - some virus scanners think that it's sneaking malware into the EXE. You might want to try either a different host or putting the EXE into a 7z file or similar.

    1. The host is fine. Chrome is a bit jumpy and people at ULMF are giving it too much credit.

Now the file scans themselves are showing lots of Generic/Injector/Packed/Encrypted warnings. Which, again, the ULMF people are giving too much credit for.

The file is being marked more as "suspicious" than "OMG TROJANS" like they believe. And chrome marks the downloads as a "virus" because it does that to random .zip/.exe on the internet depending on some unknown criteria. It didn't even actually scan anything before doing that.

Changing hosts and changing file extension should stop Chrome from being nuts, but that won't do anything about the "suspicious" rate given from bad AVs.

  4. Well, now Microsoft also declares it as a Trojan... that makes 25 of 54 AVs on Virustotal.

Ether they are copying of each other (Quite probable, it is Christmas after all...), or your build PC is infected and infecting the compiled executable...

I sent the File to avira for an analysis. Let's see what they say.

I also had a critical bug before MSSE decided to delete the game. One of the maps can't be generated. The program seems to be caught in an infinite loop. It utilizes one full core and can only be killed) It branched of Upper3 the last time I saw the bug.

    1. The avira result is in:

The file 'DungeonOfLostMaidens.exe' has been determined to be 'FALSE POSITIVE'. In particular this means that this file is not malicious but a false alarm.

They will remove it from their index.

  5. so after playing a while:
    1. as others have mentioned, saving the alchemist in the first floor completes the game, you can even go out of the city and get the ending sequence.
    2. saving the alchemist or the victim that is on the same floor as the bandit also lets you get the reward money/scroll as many times as you want from the previous expedition's leader.
    3. getting drunk at the tavern and then going to the inn has a special scene of being stalked, but i have no clue whether or not there is more to it. The text at the hot springs seems to imply there should be another event there. Moreover, sometimes you straight up don't get drunk (happened to me once with the troll) and other times you do get drunk but the scene simply doesn't trigger (even the notification that a man seems to be staring at you in the tavern).
    4. the dwarf near the start of the game that tells you to leave her alone/come back to her later seems to disappear after a time.
    5. there is a pregnant gnome near the infirmary, the offer to help option doesn't fade which would imply you can actually help her, but once again i have no clue how and sometimes she simply vanishes.
    6. making a new character after losing one seems to start you off at lv 1 (or at least with no talents) while the enemies retain their levels and the floors do not reset (tho i'm not quite sure on this point).
    7. the farthest i've gotten was to the floor right after the necromancer, where there was a locked door a few steps ahead of the stairs and i couldn't get through either normally or with magic keys.
    8. the kobold elder doesn't attack you even if you rape the mages up to that point, despite the text saying otherwise.
    9. on that note, sparing them and speaking to him seems to pacify the kobolds on that floor but none others, i'm not sure how that works.
    10. the mercenary lizardman and gnome you can recruit in the city cause more harm than good, since they can block you off in narrow passages and you can't move them away (whereas the aforementioned pacified kobolds automatically switch places with you if you try to walk into them or such)
    11. can't sell mana potions (or any potion for that matter).

Other than that what i've played thus far was pretty fun, it seems to me the troll outclasses the other two heavily but it might be a linear warriors, quadratic wizards situation since so much of the game can't be reached due to bugs.
