No 2.0 for Christmas

I'm afraid it's just not going to happen.  Both that and the Wumpus game will probably be late January, life has been a bit too busy for me to finish.

Forest of the Wumpus

So, this (brief) game is one I did ages ago, but hadn't gotten around to finishing and polishing up while I was working on Dungeon of Lost Maidens.


Basically, it's an adult version of Hunt the Wumpus, which I'm sure the world has been waiting anxiously for.

Basically, you wander around trying to find the Wumpus by the snoring and his prints, then shooting him from off screen.  The adult part comes with what happens when you lose a life (although there's also game over scenes, and some interstitial scenes where you find out what happened to other members of your expedition.)


I used my autoshading program on the part for this one, and I think it helps, particularly with the eyes.

As for DOLM, I'm still working on version 2.0, among the immediate changes are there are going to be game over scenes for being vampirized, as well as a "corpse" for Aisha the Werecougar.

Version 1.7

Small update before 2.0... I'll see about adding some content and such with the next patch, hopefully by the end of the year.

Some minor graphic fixes
Monsters now move around when a player dies, to prevent bunching up.
Lesser Succubi strength reduced, so they hit for less in melee.
Lisa now sells town portal scrolls

BUG Fixes:

House that was flagged as also being the Inn has been fixed.
Killing an succubus elf no longer causes an error.
Ghost player interactions fixed.
Some background graphics for defeats weren't showing up properly.

Version 1.6 Release

A more expansive update with additional features and art will have to wait a bit.  Here's the newest version, password is "advsoft" as previously:

Changes:

Ability to lock/unlock window resizing added.
Non-chest items no longer block movement.
Blood/Liquid splatters now disappear after a time.

BUG Fixes:

Removed accidental triggering of config menu when you tried to start a Enchantress New Character.
Rescued NPCs now properly spawn portals again.

Shading

No... not dead.  Just very busy with other stuff.

I did have a little bit of time to try and address some of the artwork issues.  The art took a long time to draw and there's a lot of it, so just redrawing most of it isn't in the cards.  I may redraw some in a month or two, we'll see if I get the time.

I looked into automatically shading it:



...which did make it look somewhat better, although the shading doesn't work quite right because I was sloppy about incomplete black borders when I drew/resized the images.  We'll see if that's something I can fix in the coming months.

I also have a small, side game which I worked on, which I'll try and post here in the next couple of weeks.

Items and Chests now despawn if you can't pick them up otherwise.

Player splatter type is now correct for some of the other deaths

If you can cast Portal, you can now rescue people with it instead of a scroll.
Complete quest color changed to blue to make it more readable
Naga Sorceress has an intro and defeat script and graphic.

BUG Fixes:

David now doesn't change skin colors while Keyreshka is on top of him.
Keyreshka is now properly scripted if you left without completing the fight.
Kobold and Barrier quests now will mark complete
Dorothy now has the correct icon in town.
Slain Evil Illusionist images no longer leave a splatter.
Fixed overflow bug with temple donations.
Necromantrix sparing options corrected to use the right script.
Necromantrix, Isabella Gemglow, and Orc Maiden now leave a corpse.
Dorothy is now mercifully silent after you talk to her in the dungeon.

Version 1.3

Trying to get everything fixed so the game's fully playable.  Thanks again for everyone who posted bugs.

Changes:

Saving the game has a prompt, and notifies you if you're somewhere you can't save.
NPC dialogue cleaned up a little to reflect being hired.
Defeating the kobold sorceresses is now a marked quest, after talking to Artemis.
NPCs now have interactable "corpses" and can be rescued with a town portal scroll.
Monsters now respawn on the level you died on if playing on a difficulty higher than easy.

BUG Fixes:

Fixed (another) bug in level generation, this one causing a crash (due to a debugging feature being left on)
Changed the Sealed Staircase scripting so it's now properly passible.
"Corpses" from NPCs and Bosses should be viewable by pressing H while on top of them.
Hiring an NPC was disabling the wrong dialogue box.

Version 1.2

Changes:

Portals now work "Diablo-Style" you can ride them back down from the town
Keyreshka and David's spawn has been changed to prevent them from being too far apart.
Added a "Generate at Start" option under the Configuration, so you can generate all the levels first, then play the game without having to wait.


BUG Fixes:

Appear to have fixed problems with level generation hanging.
Fixed bug where NPC portals could overwrite stairwells.
Special player corpses from orcs had been dummied out, now back in.
Fixed a few background issues on some of the game over graphics.
All cave levels should have reachable exits now.
NPC's now properly removed from town if they die in the dungeon

Version 1.1

This time, I went ahead and put a password on the RAR, it's "dolm" since some people had complained about things being possibly added to it.  I also switched free file hosters.

You're always going to get some anti-virus warnings with any of my games, because most of the scanners don't like encrypted/compressed EXEs.

Changes:

Force and lightning spells now have a chance to open jammed doors.
"Gold" endings now implemented

BUG Fixes:

Marigold advancing the Siren quest by turning in rescues has been fixed.
Kobold Elder not actually turning hostile after "he attacks!" fixed.
Keyreshka now has proper script functionality if you have already lost a player to her.
Pregnant Gnome in town help option now disables correctly.
NPCs can now switch places with the player.
You can now properly sell Lisa mana potions.
Sleeping at the Inn properly advances time and removes Statuses.
Sleep Status now appears to work correctly.

Also, there's finally a Readme with the controls on there.  I left it out by accident on the initial release.

Looking towards 1.1

So, I'm back at coding after the holidays, and I've been compiling the bugs.

I hope to have a new version with most of the bugs fixed in a week or so.  If there's anything pressing that's not in the original thread comments, post it here if you could.
